We produced the plant pigments beta-carotene and lycopene in this lab by using genetically modified E. coli. A range of culture conditions and growth media were tested to determine the optimal pigment biosynthesis.

• 30° vs 37**°** incubation temperature
• LB vs 2YT growth media
• Fructose vs. No fructose

We used a serological pipette to add 5 mL of each growth medium (as shown in the table).

We used two control tubes without E. coli: an LB media tube and a 2YT tube.
